Leforio Privacy Policy

Last updated: 7 November 2026. Applies to Leforio 1.0 for iPhone and iPad.

Leforio is made and published by Eleli LLC (“we”, “us”). This policy says what Leforio keeps on your device, what can leave it when you use certain features, and how you control that.

In short

What is stored on your device

Leforio keeps the following in its own storage on your iPhone or iPad:

This stays on the device unless you use iCloud Sync or share something, or your device is backed up (see Device backups). Deleting Leforio removes this storage from the device; it does not remove copies in iCloud or in Apple backups.

What Leforio does not do

Features you choose to use

iCloud Sync (optional, off by default)

If you turn on iCloud Sync in Library Settings, Leforio keeps these in the private iCloud (CloudKit) database of your Apple Account, so they appear on your iPhone and iPad signed in to the same account:

Not synced: theme, text size, brightness and the other reading settings, search results, and the reader log.

The data goes to Apple’s iCloud under your Apple Account and Apple’s terms and privacy policy; it does not go to Eleli LLC. It is stored in your private database, which we cannot read. Leforio stores its values in encrypted CloudKit fields and the book files as CloudKit assets. Leforio has no push server and asks for no notification permission; iCloud itself tells the app when there are changes.

You control it: turn iCloud Sync off in Library Settings (your books stay on the device and what is already in iCloud stays there too); delete a book from iCloud and your other devices with Remove from All Devices…; or delete all of Leforio’s data from iCloud in Settings › Apple Account › iCloud › Manage Storage. We cannot do any of this for you, because we cannot access your iCloud data.

Translate (Apple’s Translation)

When you choose Translate on selected text, Leforio passes the selected text, and, where it finds one, the sentence around it for context, with the languages involved, to Apple’s Translation on your device. On iOS 26, if both languages are installed on your device, the translation runs on the device and the card says so (“Translated on device by Apple”). Otherwise the card says “Translated by Apple”, and how and where Apple processes the text is governed by iOS and Apple’s terms. If the languages are not on your device yet, iOS offers to download them from Apple. On iOS 17.4 and later versions of iOS 17, Apple’s own translation sheet is used instead of Leforio’s card.

The text is not sent to Eleli LLC. Leforio does not save the text or the translation; it remembers only the target language you last chose.

Google Translate (only if you choose it)

The translation card offers Open in Google Translate. The first time, Leforio tells you that Google Translate opens outside Leforio and that the selected text goes to Google, and asks you to confirm; it remembers on the device that you did. Leforio then opens translate.google.com in your browser with the selected text and the target language in the address, so the text goes to Google and may appear in your browser’s history. Google handles it under its own terms and privacy policy; neither Leforio nor Eleli LLC receives it. If the selection is longer than 5,000 characters, or would make the address too long, Leforio puts the text on the clipboard instead and opens Google Translate without it, for you to paste.

Look Up

Look Up shows the system dictionary of iOS for the word or phrase you selected. It is a screen of iOS, and Leforio sends the text nowhere else.

Listen

Listen reads the selected text aloud using the speech voices installed on your device (iOS speech synthesis), in the language of the text and with your Spoken Content settings. Leforio does not record the audio, and does not save the text or send it anywhere. Voices are added and managed in iOS settings (Settings › Accessibility › Spoken Content › Voices), and iOS may download them from Apple.

Sharing and exporting

Share, Copy Translation, the export of your highlights and notes as a Markdown file, and Share Reader Log all use the iOS share sheet or the clipboard. Leforio only hands the content to iOS; what happens next depends on the app or service you choose, under its own policy. The highlights export contains passages quoted from your book and your notes, so share it with care. Leforio writes that file to the app’s temporary folder before sharing it.

The reader log

To help diagnose problems, Leforio keeps a short log on your device, for the current session and the one before, so that a problem that ended in a crash can still be looked into. It contains the app version and build, your device model and iOS version, taps on the page and what the reader did with them, page sizes, settings changes, actions you chose (for example that you translated a selection of so many characters, and between which languages), and positions in the book (file names inside the book and percentages). It does not contain book text, quotes or notes. It is kept in the app’s cache, which is not included in backups and which the system may clear, and it is limited in size.

The log leaves your device only if you open Contents › About the Book › Diagnostics, choose Share Reader Log and send it yourself. Clear Reader Log deletes it.

Contacting support

If you write to us at {{SUPPORT_EMAIL}}, we receive your email address, your message and anything you attach or include, such as a reader log or details of your device. We use it to read and answer your message and to look into the problem you report. Email passes through your email service and ours. Please do not send your books, and include only what you are comfortable with us seeing. If you have a question about a message you sent us, write to the same address.

Device backups

Your books, reading positions, bookmarks, highlights, notes and settings are part of the app’s data on your device, so they are included in the iCloud or Finder backup of your device according to your backup settings. Those backups are made and stored by Apple, under Apple’s terms; Eleli LLC has no access to them, and we cannot restore or recover your data from them. You can choose which apps iCloud backs up in the iCloud settings on your device.

Apple and the App Store

Leforio contains no analytics or crash-reporting code of its own. Apple provides the App Store, and if you choose on your device to share analytics or crash data with developers, Apple may make aggregated reports, such as downloads and crashes, available to us. Apple’s terms and privacy policy apply to that.

Children

Leforio has no accounts and collects no personal data from anyone, including children.

Your choices and questions

Because Leforio keeps your data on your device and, if you choose, in your own iCloud, we hold nothing about your reading that we could show, correct or delete for you. Everything above under “You control it” is in your hands. For messages you sent to support, or any question about this policy, write to {{SUPPORT_EMAIL}}.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this address with a new date at the top. Leforio has no accounts, so it cannot notify you directly.
